Aqtau International School Hosts IB Workshop Day: Enhancing Teaching & Learning through IB Best Practices
On May 3, 2025, Aqtau International School (AIS) organized a professional development event titled “Enhancing Teaching & Learning through IB Best Practices.” The workshop brought together IB educators to share effective teaching strategies and strengthen pedagogical practices within the IB framework.
The sessions were led by experienced educators:
  • Kamilla Orujova – Implementing IB Principles in the Classroom (Russian)
  • Lynda Thompson – Conducting Inquiry Lessons (English)
  • Oxana Akimova – Engaging in the IB Curriculum Process (Russian)
  • Aysel Alasgarova – An Overview of the Unit Planners (English)
  • Maria Elena Berardi – Developing a Student-Centered Class (English)
The workshop provided valuable insights into inquiry-based learning, curriculum engagement, and the development of student-centered classrooms, reinforcing AIS’s commitment to continuous professional growth and excellence in IB education.

Kamilla Orujova

Kamilla Orujova led a PYP session in Russian: “Implementing IB Principles in the Classroom.” Her workshop offered practical strategies for bringing the IB philosophy to life in everyday teaching, with a strong focus on student agency, concept-based learning, and creating inclusive, inquiry-rich environments. 

 

Lynda Thompson

Lynda Thompson led a dynamic MYP session in English: “Conducting Inquiry Lessons.” Her workshop empowered educators with practical tools to design and implement meaningful inquiry-based learning experiences, emphasizing student engagement, critical thinking, and real-world connections at the heart of the MYP framework.

Oxana Akimova

Oxana Akimova facilitated a bilingual PYP/MYP session in Russian: “Engaging in the IB Curriculum Process.” Her workshop guided educators through the key stages of curriculum development within the IB framework, highlighting alignment, planning, and implementation strategies that promote coherence and student-centered learning across programmes.

Aysel Alasgarova

Aysel Alasgarova led an MYP session in English: “An Overview of the Unit Planners.” Her workshop provided educators with a clear and practical understanding of the MYP unit planning process, emphasizing alignment with IB principles, purposeful learning experiences, and effective assessment strategies.

Maria Berardi

Maria Elena Berardi facilitated a PYP/MYP session in English: “Developing a Student-Centered Class.” Her workshop explored practical strategies to foster student agency, voice, and choice, empowering educators to create inclusive, engaging, and learner-driven environments that reflect the core values of IB education.
